Accordion
Build vertically collapsing accordions in combination with our Collapse JavaScript plugin.
How it works
The accordion uses collapse internally to make it collapsible.
prefers-reduced-motion media query. See the reduced motion section of our accessibility documentation.
Example
Click the accordions below to expand/collapse the accordion content.
To render an accordion that’s expanded by default:
- add the
.showclass on the.accordion-collapseelement. - drop the
.collapsedclass from the.accordion-buttonelement and set itsaria-expandedattribute totrue.

</div>Anchored
Give each .accordion-header a unique id, then add a .az-accordion-anchor link inside its .accordion-body whose href points at that id. Clicking the link copies the item’s full URL to the clipboard; visiting that URL opens the item and scrolls to it.
This is built into Arizona Bootstrap’s JavaScript, so no additional script is required — though the “Copied!” confirmation depends on Bootstrap’s tooltip plugin being initialized on the page.
Anchored accordions work best in the Always open style — omit data-bs-parent, as the example below does. With data-bs-parent, opening a linked item also collapses its sibling, and on a fresh page load the browser jumps to the anchor before that collapse finishes, which can read as a stutter as the position corrects.

</div>Scroll offset
If your site has a fixed or sticky header, set the --az-scroll-margin-top CSS variable in your own site’s CSS to that header’s height — plus a little more, if you want some breathing room — so it doesn’t cover the accordion item when a hash-linked item scrolls into view:
:root {
--az-scroll-margin-top: 64px; /* match your header's height */
}
Most sites don’t need this — the offset defaults to 0. The scroll happens both on page load and afterward, whenever the page’s hash changes again (from another in-page link, or the browser’s back/forward buttons).
The Arizona Bootstrap docs site overrides this property to 86px, which is approximately 66px for the fixed navbar height and another 20px for breathing room.

CSS
Variables
Added in v5.2.0As part of Bootstrap’s evolving CSS variables approach, accordions now use local CSS variables on .accordion for enhanced real-time customization. Values for the CSS variables are set via Sass, so Sass customization is still supported, too.
